TEHRAN (IQNA) – As many as 180 men and women will take part in the provincial stage of Iran’s 40th national Quran competition in Tehran province.

Hojat-ol-Islam Rahim Babaei, the head of the Quranic Affairs section of the province’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Department, said the competition will be held on August 7-11 in Tehran.

He noted that the categories of the contest include Quran memorization, recitation, Tarteel, Adhan (call to prayers), and supplications.

The official said the women’s section of the competition will be held on August 7-8 while men will compete on August 9-11.

The members of the contest’s panel of judges will be announced in a few days, he went on to say.

Winners of different categories will make it to the national stage, which will be hosted by the northwestern city of Orumiyeh, West Azarbaijan province.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the Quranic event with the aim of promoting the teachings of the Holy Quran, fostering Quranic activities and identifying the country’s Quranic talents.
