TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final round of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 36th International Quran Competition will begin in Tehran on April 10.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Moqanni, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization’s Quran Competitions Foundation, told IQNA that the Imam Khomeini Mosalla (prayer hall) will host the final round of the contest.

He said there will be changes in this year’s competition compared to the previous editions.

For example, he said, it will be held in three rounds, with the preliminary round being held in the form of sending recorded files of the contenders’ Quran recitations to the organizing committee.

According to the cleric, those deemed qualified will then be invited to Iran and attend the semi-final round, which will be held at the hotel on April 9.

The final round will then begin officially on April 10 at the Mosalla, he added.

Hojat-ol-Islam Moqanni noted that the competition will end in an awarding ceremony on April 14 and the contenders will meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution on April 15.

Like previous years, he said, a number of other international Quran contests, including those for women, seminary students, and school students will also be organized in the country concurrent with the main event.

The Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the competition with the participation of Quran memorizers and reciters from various countries.

Last year, nearly 370 foreign guests, including the contenders, Quran experts and members of the panels of judges, took part in the competition and other international contests held in Tehran simultaneously.
