TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Portuguese national studying in Iran embraced Islam in a ceremony in Sanandaj, the capital of Kordestan province.

He recited the Shahaadatayn (the two declarations of faith) at the ceremony on Monday in the presence of Ayatollah Hosseini Shahroudi, the Leader’s representative in the province.

Ayatollah Hosseini Shahroudi gifted a copy of the Holy Quran to the young man, who has changed his name to Mohammad Hessam.

Mohammad Hessam said that once he learned about Islam, he decided to study about the religion intensively.

After doing extensive research, he realized that Islam is a comprehensive religion and the Quran contains everything humankind needs for salvation, he said.

"Hence, I decided to convert to Islam and chose the Jafari school of thought,” he went on to say.
