TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final stage of the 15th edition of Syed Junaid International Quran Award is underway in Manama, Bahrain with the participation of representatives from 54 countries.

According to BNA, Al-Fateh Islamic Center in Manama has been hosting this edition of the competition since November 18.

Ishaq Kuhiji, head of the Official Council of the Society for Serving the Holy Quran, said at the opening ceremony of the competition that the main objective of the international Quranic event is to encourage Quran activists to promote their Quranic skills and develop brotherhood and friendship among them.

Also speaking in the program, was Abdul-Ghani Al-Omari, head of the organizing committee, who said that representatives from 54 Arab and Muslim countries have participated in different categories of the event, including Quran memorization, recitation and Tajweed.

He said the competition was given the title of ‘the best international Quran competition’ by the Holy Quran Memorization International Organization in 2014.

Al-Omari said it will run until Wednesday, November 22, with the closing ceremony slated to be held at al-Fateh Islamic Center after Maghrib and Isha prayers.

He added that prominent Egyptian Qari Sheikh Ahmed Ahmed Noiana is the event’s guest of honor.

Sheikh Hassan Muhammad Tayyeb, head of the panel of judges for this edition of the competition, said that six Quran experts from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Algeria and Chad form the panel of judges.

The contest is annually organized by the Society for Serving the Holy Quran, which is based in Manama, in cooperation with Syed Junaid Alam Institute.
