TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 19th edition of Algeria’s “National Holy Quran Week” got underway in the country on December 18.

It has been organized by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs of the North African country with the motto of “Spiritual Training in the Quran”, Algeria’s state news agency reported.

Some 600 political, religious, cultural, and academic personalities, including ambassadors of a number of Muslim countries to Algeria, attended a ceremony held in the capital, Algiers, to launch the week’s programs.

Addressing the function, Algerian Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs Muhammad Issa underlined the need for promoting Quranic values in society.

He also called on activists in various fields to work for enhancing spiritual values.

During the Quran Week, thinkers and scholar will deliver speeches about, among other things, the role of religious institutes in spiritual training, the reality of spiritual training, and the role of spiritual training in sustainable development.

The Quran Week is annually held by the ministry under the supervision of Algeria’s president.
