TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Egyptian Quran expert described the 6th edition of the International Quran Competition for Muslim Students as one of the best Quran contest he has seen.

The contest was held in the holy city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, on April 26-29, with the participation of university students from around the world.

Speaking to IQNA, Sheikh Mohamed Fahmi Asfour, who served as a member of the competition’s panel of judges, described it as a global gathering of Quranic representatives from various countries.

“We witnessed good interaction among representatives of different countries, both the contenders and the members of the panel of judges, at this edition of the contest,” he said.

“Without any exaggeration, this was one of the best competitions I have ever seen.”

He also hailed the presence of both the contestants and referees in one hall during the competition, saying it provided the opportunity for the contenders to ask their questions and know about the areas they needed to improve their Quranic skills.

Asfour said the initiative to record the competition for future broadcasting instead of letting people to attend and watch the competition was also a good one.

The Egyptian Quran expert hoped that the competition will bear very good fruits.

Elsewhere, he described as absolutely correct comments made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in his meeting with the participants in the Quran competition about the root cause of many problems in the Muslim world being lack of attachment to the Quran.
