Qatari Military Personnel to Compete in Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) –  The 22nd Quran competition for Qatar’s armed forces will start on Monday in Doha, the capital.

 

According to al-Sharq newspaper, the Arab country’s Chairman of Chief-of-Staff Ghanim bin Shahin al-Ghanim will attend the opening ceremony.

A total of 230 individuals from different units of the Qatari army will take part in the contest, said Ali Ahmed Bariq, head of the organizing committee.

According to the official, they will compete in seven categories featuring Quran memorization at different levels.

He hailed the growing number of contenders, saying there were 198 participants in the previous edition last year and 174 in 2016.

The competition is annually organized by the army in cooperation with Qatar’s ministry of Awqaf and Islamic affairs.
