TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Secretary General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah discussed the latest developments in the region.

In their meeting, held in Beirut on Monday and attended by Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Seyed Mohamamd Jalal Firuznia, Zarif reiterated Iran’s policy of supporting the Lebanese people, government and resistance movement.

He added that Tehran is ready for help and cooperation with Beirut in various areas.

Nasrallah, for his part, lauded Iran’s backing for Lebanon that has led to great victories in different fields and hoped that the Islamic Republic would continue its support despite all pressures and plots.

The Iranian foreign minister also met with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri later in the day, in which the two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and regional issues, including the situation in Syria and Yemen.

Zarif arrived in Beirut on Sunday, a few days after Lebanon formed a new national unity government, ending nearly nine months of political wrangling.

The government of Hariri, who has Western backing, includes most parties, including Hezbollah, which emerged stronger from the parliamentary election last May thanks to gains by its allies. Hezbollah chose the new health minister.
