TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sudan’s representative bagged the top prize in Jordan’s 14th international Quran competition for women.

The contest came to a conclusion in an awarding ceremony on Thursday.

The panel of judges announced the Quran memorizer from Sudan as the top winner of the Quranic event.

The runner-up was from the Philippines and those from Turkey, Egypt and Iraq came third to fifth, respectively.

Iran’s representative Fatemeh Shirazi was not among the top winner although she believes her performance was flawless.

Representatives of 35 countries competed in the international Quran contest for women, which was held in Amman on March 9-14.

In 2018, Iran’s Maryam Shafiei, who is visually-impaired, won the third rank in Jordan’s 13th international Quran competition for women.

The Arab country’s international Quran contest for men will be held in the holy month of Ramadan (May-June).
