TEHRAN (IQNA) – The draw for the semifinal round in the recitation category of Iran’s 36th International Quran Competition was held in a session in Tehran on Monday.

During the event, attended by members of the panel of judges and the contenders in the category.

At the beginning of the session, Abdol Rasoul Abayi, head of the panel, and Mohammad Taqi Mirzajani, head of the competition’s technical committee, explained about evaluation and scoring criteria and technical issues.

Abayi noted that in the semifinal round, the participants learn their draw a day earlier and have a day to practice but in the finals, they will be informed of the draw only ten minutes before going onto the stage for recitation.

According to the draw held at the end of the session, Iran’s representative Mehdi Gholamnejad will recite verses 60 to 64 of Surah al-Qasas.

As many as 184 Quran activists from 84 countries have made it to the semi-final round of the main contest and four other international Quran contests- those for women, school students, seminary students, and the visually-impaired.

Iran will host the five international Quranic events on April 10-14.
