TEHRAN (IQNA) – Head of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said three cities in the country will play host to several international Quranic events in the coming weeks.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi said they will be held in Tehran, Qom and Mashhad.

He said some 370 foreign guests, including contestants, members of panels of judges, and others, will arrive in Iran for the competitions.

According to the official, whose organization holds the Quranic events annually, the total number of the contestants in this year’s competitions will be 258 Qaris and Quran memorizers from 84 countries.

The Quran contests will kick off on Thursday, April 19, in the capital, Tehran, he said.

They include the 35th edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Quran Competition (for men), as well as those for women, the visually-impaired, school students, and seminary students, he noted.

Mohammadi added that the motto of this year’s contests is “One Book, One Ummah (community), which is based on the Quran and underlines the need for Islamic unity.

He said there will also be an international Quranic conference on different themes, focusing on the fight against arrogant powers in view of Quranic teachings.

A total of 1115 papers have been submitted to the secretariat of the conference, which started Monday in the holy city of Qom, he went on to say.

Earlier this month, an official with the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said this edition of Iran’s International Quran Competition will be held at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) like the previous one.
