TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Iranian Cultural Center in Pakistan will organize a Quran memorization and recitation competition in Karachi on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week.

According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, the Quranic centers of Sunni and Shia Muslims of the country will cooperate in holding the competition.

Bahram Kian, head of the Iranian Culture House in Karachi, recently visited the religious centers of the city and discussed the organization of the competition with directors of the Quranic centers.

It will be held in preliminary and final stages during the unity week.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week, which will fall on November 10-15 this year.

Late founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
