TEHRAN (IQNA) –  Three top Iranian sources of emulation said normalization of ties with the Zionist regime of Israel is against Islamic principles and described it as a betrayal of the Muslim Ummah.

Sending an Istifta (new inquiry) about normalization of ties with the Tel Aviv regime, Hojat-ol-Islam Shahriari, the secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST), said such a move undermines the rights of the Palestinian people, tramples upon the aspirations of the Muslim Ummah, and lends legitimacy to the Zionist regime.

He asked for the opinion of Ayatollahs Nasser Makarem Shirazi, Hossein Nouri Hamedani and Alavi Gorgani as well as a number of other senior clerics.

All of the top clerics described such a move as treason and called for the Muslim Ummah to prevent it.

It came after Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates signed official agreements at the White House on September 15 enabling full normalization of their relations with Israel. The deals had been announced by US President Donald Trump respectively earlier in September and last month.

All Palestinian factions, Bahrain’s opposition groups, and numerous independent Muslim circles have roundly denounced the normalization trend as a stab in the back of the Palestinian nation and sheer betrayal of their cause of liberation from the Israeli occupation and aggression.

Observers say the wave of Arab-Israel détente serves to both woo the US-based Zionist lobby’s votes for Trump in the upcoming presidential election and deflect attention from a political and legitimacy crisis that the Israeli premier is grappling with.
