TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian cleric described Itikaf as a multidimensional act of worship and a journey to one’s self.

In a message to the closing ceremony of an international Itikaf festival held in Iran, Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli said Itikaf is an opportunity for mankind to take journey to their self.

He expressed hope that God grants all the blessing to have good and pure intention and get prepared to receive the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

Itikaf, in the Islamic faith, is a particularly commended pious practice consisting of a period of retreat in a mosque, for a certain number of days in accordance with the believer’s own wish.

Those taking part in the spiritual ritual sit in mosques and fast and pray God during the three days of Itikaf.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Itikaf ceremonies were not held in mosques in Iran.
