Conference in Dagestan to Commemorate Translator of Quran into Russian

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Dagestan State University plans to organize a conference in commemoration of Russian scholar and translator of the Quran Magomed-Nuri Osmanov.

 

It will be held in cooperation with Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Iranian Cultural Center in Russia and the Institute for Iran-Eurasia Studies (IRAS).

History and historiography in the Middle East, major issues in modern Islamic studies, cultural and arts studies in the Middle East, language and literature in the Middle East and historical ties between the people of Caucasus and the East are among the main themes of the conference.

Those willing to take part in the conference should send the abstract of their paper by October 1.

Magomed-Nuri Osmanov was born in Makhachkala in 1924. He got his PhD in Persian literature from Moscow University in 1954.

He published his translation of the Quran in the Russian language in 1981.

Many consider it one of the best renderings of the Holy Book in Russian.

Osmanov died in August 2015 at the age of 91.
