Shia Mosque in Kandahar Targeted during Friday Prayers

TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to reports, a bomb blast has hit a Shia mosque in Afghanistan’s Kandahar while people were holding Friday prayers, claiming lives of a number of worshipers.

Early reports indicate that the blast has so far claimed at least seven lives and left some 13 people injured.

A Spokesman with Taliban confirmed the attack, describing casualties as heavy. Qari Saeed Khosti said authorities were collecting details of the explosion.

There are no immediate confirmation of the number of dead and wounded.

Nematullah Wafa, a former member of the provincial council, said the blast occurred at the Imam Bargah mosque, Reuters reported.

And no group has so far claimed responsibility of the terror attack.

The blast comes just one week after Daesh terrorists targeted a mosque in Kunduz, killing some 100 people and injuring some 200 others.

The acts of terror was strongly condemned by Muslim countries and the international community and the Taliban was urged to preserve the security of minorities.
