TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to Quranic teachings, some people lose their ability to hear and see the truth. This happens to those who defy the right path.

The Holy Quran notes that the unfaithful will lose their recognition ability; such as in verse 7 of Surah Al-Baqarah which reads, “God has sealed their hearts and hearing and their vision is veiled; a great punishment awaits them.”

This has also been referred to in other verses such as verse 35 of Surah Ghafir which reads, “Thus does God seal the hearts of every arrogant oppressor” or verse 23 of Surah Al-Jathiya which notes “Have you seen the one who has chosen his desires as his lord? God has knowingly caused him to go astray, sealed his ears and heart and veiled his vision”.

Infidelity, arrogance, oppression, following rebellious desires, and stubbornness against the truth have been named as some of the reasons behind losing one’s recognition ability; this is actually a reaction to one’s deeds.

This is a fact that when an individual continues to do a wrong act, he or she will get accustomed to that. That wrong act becomes a habit before turning into behavior and becoming a part of his or her character. Sometimes that person is not able to return to the right path anymore but the responsibility for all the deeds goes back to themselves. It is like somebody who has intentionally made oneself deaf and blind.

On the other hand, God also promises to guide the believers. “Believers, if you fear God, He will give you guidance, will expiate your bad deeds and forgive you.” (Surah Al Anfal, Verse 29)
