TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Development Coordination Council said the arrival of the Sacred Defense Week is a reminder of the Iranian nation’s resistance, steadfastness, sacrifice, bravery and victory.

Sacred Defense

In a statement on the eve of the 42nd anniversary of the Sacred Defense, the council said the 8-year Sacred Defense is an ever alive manifestation of the Islamic awareness and steadfastness of the Iranian nation and its resistance against the Ba’athist regime of (former Iraqi dictator) Saddam Hussein and his supporters.

The statement also hailed the Iranian people’s brave defense of the country’s land and sea borders as well as its religious and ideological borders under the banner of Islam and the Holy Quran.

It said the epical presence of the faithful Iranian nation in the Sacred Defense showcased unity under the banner of Wilayat Faqih and the Imam of the Ummah.

In Iran, the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war is known as the Sacred Defense, and weeklong events are held on the anniversary of the beginning of the war.

They include various cultural, religious and military programs, including military parades, held to mark the Sacred Defense Week.
