TEHRAN (IQNA) - If one learns Quran everyday and applies its teachings in his everyday life, he will no doubt succeed in both Dunya (this world) and Akhrat (the Hereafter).

This is according to Hammad Mustafa, 17-year-old Hafiz from Pakistan who represented his country in the 5th International holy Quran for Muslim Students.

“Just reading the Quran is not enough, we should read the Quran along with the translation to understand what it says to us and then we should apply its teachings in our lives to become successful both in this life and after that,” he said.
Mustafa, who is studying medical sciences, started learning the Quran when he was 11 years old and completed his Hifz in 3 years. His teacher is his grandfather.
He took part in other Quranic contests including one organized in his college as well as in Pakistan National Quranic Competitions.
Asked about new technology and its effects in Quran learning, he said, “The new technologies have very much facilitated the Quran learning. People nowadays use smart phones to read the Quran because one cannot possibly carry the Holy Quran whenever he goes. And with the use of computers it has become very easy to study the Quran with translation and understand it.
“On the other hand, young Muslims and teenagers are not paying much attention to the Quran these days because they have started to like other things like games and other distracting things. With the increase in technology, these distracting materials are affecting the young minds very badly. People of the past did not have as much technology as we have today so they were not affected by them and had more time for Quran activities.”
As for the Muslim students’ Quran competition, which concluded in Tehran on Sunday, he said, “I think these international competitions play a very important role in bringing Muslim students together.”
Mustafa urged that there should be an age limit for the Huffaz and Qaris attending the contest. “In this way, the competition would be equal for everyone and new talents in Quran will start to show up.”
He also said that these competitions can improve by increasing the number of winners to 10 in each category to motivate the competitors.
“The competitors from Egypt, Iran, Lebanon and Indonesia are very good readers of Quran and I think that they will be in the top 5,” he predicted.
Referring to the motto of this edition of the International Quran competition for Muslim Students, namely  “Quran, Harbinger of Kindness, Unity and Human Dignity”, Hammad Mustafa said it is very much true because due to the Quran, students from different countries meet and exchange their thoughts with each other which very much affects their minds and helps to remove any negativities.
