TEHRAN (IQNA) – Deputy of the Russian Council of Muftis Roshan Hazrat Abbasov commended the Quranic activities of Iran’s Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR).

Speaking in a meeting with Hamid Saber Farzam, the managing director of the International Quran News Agency (IQNA), affiliated to the ACECR, Abbasov described the Iranian center’s Quranic activities as something the Muslim world should be proud of.

During the meeting, held on Wednesday evening at the office of the Russian Council of Muftis in Moscow, Abbasov presented a report on Quranic activities in Russia.

He referred to the Moscow International Quran Competition as one of these activities, saying that it is considered the top Quranic contest in Europe.

The Russian cleric noted that representatives of some 40 countries take part in the prestigious competition every year.

Abbasov called for cooperation between the Iranian center and the Russian Council of Muftis in holding the competition and voiced the council’s willingness to benefit from Iran’s experiences in organizing Quran contests.

He also called on the Iranian center to hold Quran recitation courses for Russian Qaris.

Deputy of the Russian Council of Muftis further invited Iranian officials to attend a ceremony slated for September 23 to inaugurate Moscow’s largest mosque.

The huge mosque has been built on a 19,000-meter plot of land and has 6 stories.

IQNA’s managing director, for his part, briefed the Russian cleric on the Quranic activities of the ACECR.

Elsewhere at the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 28th edition of the Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF), the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation on developing Quranic activities in the cyberspace and launching a Quranic news agency in Russian.
