TEHRAN (IQNA) – Qatari Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) distributed 40000 Quran copies in Senegal.

According to Al-Sharq newspaper, the copies of the Holy Book were handed out in a ceremony held in Louga, a town in northwestern Senegal.

Seyyed Ali Badrjoub, a local official, said in the ceremony that Senegal’s government pays special attention to Quranic schools believing that supporting such schools will result in more stability and safety in the society.

Also addressing the program was Seyyed Mustafa Louh, representative of Senegal’s Quranic schools association, who said that the distribution of the Quran copies in Quranic schools helps them achieve their objectives in different parts of the country.

Seyyed Mukhtar Fal, head of Senegal’s Islamic Charity Association, was another speaker at the ceremony who encouraged the principals of the Quranic schools to help students benefit from the copies by reading and memorizing the Holy Book.

Islam is the predominant religion in Senegal. 92 percent of the country's population is estimated to be Muslim, mainly Sunni of Maliki school of thought.
