Speaking in an interview with ETC TV network, Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said the religion disavows those who commit crimes in the name of Islam and the Quran.
He warned that extremist group act in the name of the religion to reach their goals, Shorouk News reported.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the official referred to the ongoing international Quran competition in Egypt and said the Awqaf Ministry, which has organized the contest, is resolved to promote not only memorization of the Quran but also contemplation of its teachings.
He further noted that a Quran competition for people with special needs is underway in Cairo along with the international Quranic event.
It has been attended by seventy Quran memorizers from 40 countries, Gomaa went on to say.
