Egypt Int’l Quran Competition: Value of Awards Triples, Minister Confirms

CAIRO (IQNA) – Egypt’s Awqaf minister announced a triple rise in the cash prizes of the country’s international Quran competition.

Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa said the 30th edition of Egypt’s international Quran contest will be held at the Dar-ol-Quran Center of the mosque in the New Administrative Capital near Cairo, Al-Ahram reported.  

He said the total amount of cash prizes for this edition of the competition will be over 8 million Egyptian pounds, showing a 300-percent growth compared to last year’s edition.

The contest will be held in six categories, including memorization of the entire Quran along with recitation and Tafseer (interpretation), memorization of the Quran for non-Arabic speakers, and memorization of the Quran for prayer leaders and preachers.

There is also a category of Quran memorization along with comprehension of its concepts for families, he went on to say.

The previous edition of the international Quranic event was held in Cairo in February 2023.

A total of 108 Quran memorizers and reciters from 58 countries, including 33 African countries attended the competition.

It was named after the late qari Sheikh Mustafa Ismail.
