WFPIST Chief Meets Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s Officials to Discuss Religious Cooperation

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) traveled to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region to talks with the region’s officials on promoting religious cooperation.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari’s trip came at the invitation of the region’s religious, scholarly and cultural officials, according to the public relations office of the WFPIST.

He arrived in Sulaymaniyah on Friday and was welcomed by the city’s religious and political officials.

In a speech at the tombs of two Kurdish religious figures in the city, Hojat-ol-Islam Shahriari underlined the need for enhancing Islamic unity by following the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

At the event, a Kurdish scholar also delivered a speech and eulogies in praise of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) were recited.

He also held talks with a number of the region’s officials on religious cooperation, boosting Islamic unity and proximity, and exchange of students between the University of Islamic Sects in Iran and religious universities in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
