TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Minnesota) called for apologies after a Minneapolis City Council Member made Islamophobic and anti-black comments.

Michael Rainville made the comments at a city council community meeting.

In a statement, CAIR-Minnesota’s Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said:

“We demand a public apology from Council Member Rainville for scapegoating the Muslim community and using Islamophobic, anti-Black tropes. His comments falsely targeting the Muslim and Somali community were offensive and wrong. He should meet with Muslim and Somali community leaders to gain an understanding of the community and of why what he said was so offensive.”

CAIR-MN’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
