The Quran Recitation and Tarteel Center affiliated to the Dar-ol-Quran of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine organized the event at the district’s Hazrat Zahra (SA) Mosque.

Maytham At-Tammar, head of the center, said it was attended by a large number of reciters as well as representatives of Quran unions and Quranic institutes.

He said the gathering was aimed at giving an opportunity to all qaris in the country to talk about their concerns and problems they face.

It also sought to discuss ways and work out strategies for implementing plans to enhance Iraqi qaris’ Quranic skills and knowledge to reach the level of international qaris, he added.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
