Arbaeen March A Manifestation of Love, Insight: Senior Cleric

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Chairman of Iran’s Assembly of Experts described the annual Arbaeen march as a unique event that manifests of the people’s insight and love for Imam Hussein (AS).

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati made the remark at the opening of the assembly’s periodic session Tuesday morning.

He said Arbaeen is the second Ashura and shows the great wave of following the Wilayat (religious authority).

This enormous event shows that the movement of Imam Hussein (AS) gets more alive and spreads day after day and is not limited to geography or race, he stated.

Ayatollah Jannati further underlined the need for efforts to facilitate tips by Iranians willing to take part in the Arbaeen procession in Iraq.

He said the Arbaeen pilgrims must remain vigilant against US and Zionist plots and refuse to make moves that undermine unity.

The cleric also thanked the government and nation of Iraq for their hospitality and their efforts to serve Arbaeen pilgrims.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen falls on September 17.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.

Iran’s 88-member Assembly of Experts opened the tenth session of its current term in the former building of the Iranian Parliament in Tehran.  

The Assembly of Experts is a high-ranking body that elects and oversees the activities of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
