TEHRAN (IQNA) – Verse 35 of Surah An-Nisa of the Holy Quran is a presecription for reducing the rate of divorce in society.

Husband and wife

The verse says: “If you fear there is discord between a wife and her husband and if they desire reconciliation choose arbiters from the families of both sides. God will bring them together; God is All-knowing and All-aware.”

The Quran considers it important to tackle family disputes by creating a family court and if people act upon this verse, divorce rate will fall.

In this verse, fear is out of kindness. The verse underlines a social duty, the fact that the society has responsibility regarding the fate of each family.

The Arabic word Shiqaq used in this verse is sometimes referred to as emotional divorce today. So the Quran says do not allow the dispute to get to a point where there is no way to avoid divorce.

According to this verse, parents should be in touch with young couples and as soon as there is a change in their behavior, they should try to help them. The verse does not urge interfering in their life but calls for caring for them and helping them resolve their differences.

So parents and other relatives have a responsibility about young couples.

The Quran says when there are disputes between husband and wife, a family court should be formed where there are arbiters from the two sides.
