TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ahmed al-Reziqi was a qari from south of Egypt who was influenced by Abdul Basit Abdul Samad and Mohamed Sidiq Minshawi but had his own innovation and creativity in Quran recitation as well.

Ahmed al-Reziqi

Ahmed Shahat Ahmed al-Reziqi was born in 1938 in Reziqat village in Egypt’s Qena Governorate.

He was among those in the third generation of Egyptian Quran reciters. He became famous after such legendary names as Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Mohamed Sidiq Minshawi and Mustafa Ismail.

He was a contemporary of Ragheb Mustafa Ghalwash and Abdul Aziz Hassan.

Al-Reziqi was influenced by and followed the style of Minshawi, a style that has been common in south of Egypt.

He, however, had his own creativities and innovations in recitation as well.

Few recitations by Al-Reziqi have remained today because he did not like much to recite the Quran in Quranic circles.

Quran recitation styles can be divided into three groups: alive, dead, and old. The alive styles are those that have always had many fans. The dead ones are those that few like and are forgotten little by little. Old styles are those that include some creativities and have some fans but not many. The recitation style of Al-Reziqi can be categorized as the third one.

What follows is his recitation of verses 17-35 of Surah Taha:
