TEHRAN (IQNA) – Jinns are mysterious creatures that cannot be spotted by our eyes. There are plenty of stories and fiction about Jinn but according to the Holy Quran, these creatures have some similarities with humans as well.

Quranic Teachings about Jinn

The 72nd chapter of the Holy Quran has been named Surah Al-Jinn. Containing 28 verses, the Surah is in the 29th Juz (Part) of the Quran. A Makki Surah, it was the 40th chapter revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The naming of the chapter is due to the reference to Jinn in its first verses, as well as descriptions of this creature elsewhere in the Surah. This section of the Holy Quran tells the story of a few Jinns who heard the Quran recitation and found faith.

Surah Al-Jinn points to some of the false beliefs and views of people about Jinn and provides answers to them. It describes Jinn as a mysterious creature that, like humans, is free to choose. It notes that the creature cannot be seen because of some of its conditions and that in normal circumstances, it cannot be felt. On Resurrection Day, the deeds of Jinn in this world will also be assessed.

The main topic of this Surah is monotheism, pure worship of God and rejecting worshipping anything other than Allah Almighty.

The Surah refers to two groups of infidel and believing Jinns. It also stresses that the Holy Prophet invited both Jinns and humans to Islam.

According to the Surah, as soon as Jinns heard Quranic verses, they spotted its guiding feature and believed in the religion. However, when infidels heard the same verses, they denied God and reject the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a poet and insane.

Elsewhere, the Surah points to ways in which God tests people while also stressing the need to purely worship and thank God Almighty. It also blames infidels for becoming arrogant against God.

At the end of the chapter, there is a reference to God’s knowledge and His intention to provide this knowledge to whoever He wishes.

According to the verses, knowledge is only for God and others can obtain this only through divine will and guidance.
