TEHRAN (IQNA) – Night is usually dedicated to resting but the peace that exists in these hours leads some people to dedicate a section of that to worship and contemplation. It seems that worshiping during these hours has increased influence.

The 73rd chapter of the Holy Quran is Surah Al-Muzzammil. Containing 20 verses, the Surah is in the 29th Juz (part) of the Holy Quran. It is a Makki Surah and the third one revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The title of the Surah has been derived from a word in its first verse that refers to someone who has wrapped up himself in garments. It seems that the verses address Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who had done this after being harassed by infidels. “Worship (God) for a few hours at night,” reads the second verse.

The chapter invites the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to worship at night, read the Quran, and be patient in the face of infidels as it also discusses Resurrection Day.

According to the Surah, a heavy responsibility was awaiting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as mentioned in verse 5: “We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word.” Some interpreters say that the “word” refers to the revelation of the Quran.

This recommendation though, is not a specific one for the Prophet but a public one that tries to encourage people to worship God at night. “Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent.” (Verse 6)

The chapter also calls on the Holy Prophet to be patient in the face of harassment from enemies and stay away from those who call him insane or a poet. Again, this is not a specific order for the Prophet but a public one for all believers. After warning infidels, the Surah also urges believers to practice patience.

One of the verses of the Surah refers to the correct manner of Quran recitation. Verse 4 of the Surah urges Muslims to recite the Quran in slow, measured rhythmic tones.
